My Creative Workspace

Having a location to be comfortable and creative is a very important asset as a visual artist. I am sitting at a computer most of my day, and when I am not at a computer, I am visualizing on what my next move will be creatively and artistically. After watching the new movie, “The Book of Eli,” I became inspired to update my workspace.

Added some “purple” lights to add creativity to my workspace. Although, you are right, these are most definitely “pink.” These are an addition to the blue “party bulb” that I had before. The vibe of the area is so much more comfortable, and I am looking forward to spending many more hours at the desk now. It is a work in progress.

The Pink/Purple lights are from Wal-Mart, but manufactured by Mood-Lites to “brighten your world.” The purple’s purpose is to promote creativity. I was a little surprised when the purple became more of a pink, and it’s a bold statement to have pink in my workspace. But, I am confident that this will add a unique touch to a dull boring workspace.

The lights you purchased from Wal-Mart may use a very cheap paint/coloring that changes color from the light and heat emitted from the lamp– it’s noteworthy that you must be careful when buying colored lights that they can emit gases or particles/dust from cheap materials used.

I went with some daylight full-spectrum CF’s that I placed into custom clip-on cans. I use them to light my work bench where my turntables are. It really helps my motivation and creativity levels during long stints of music producing! It also looks kind of cool in a ‘wharehouse meets loft’ kind of way, and makes it feel less like I’m working in the lower room of our rental track-home in the suburbs ;)

Now I just need my MacBook and I’m set!

That’s good to know Sean. They are running at 25W, but still very hot. I am curious on how I can figure out if these are the “cheap” types that you mentioned.

I am always looking to improve my workspace, and I personally REALLY like to have color. But, health is definitely more important than color i suppose! :-)

Interesting. In the photo it seems awfully dim in the room. Is it actually like that when you sit there or is there more light and ambient light to keep your eyes from straining? Also, how does the color affect what you are working on? Especially as color is so important to your post-processing on your photos.

    Very cool look though.

Well, it isn’t nearly as dark as the photograph. I have some white lights in the area, but it isn’t a very well lit place. It’s just a quick and easy way to change the atmosphere that I am working in, so i am not in the same stale place, photo after photo. I change things up a little, to add a bit of spice to my work flow. keeping me on the edge of the seat!
